Pick the cloning mode
ElevenLabs currently offers instant voice cloning and professional voice cloning. The plan table places instant cloning on Starter and professional cloning on Creator. Use the least complex mode that produces acceptable output for your project.
Prepare clean reference audio
Voice cloning quality depends heavily on the source material. Record a clean sample with one speaker, limited background noise, consistent microphone distance, and the natural delivery style you want the model to learn. Avoid using a voice you do not own or have clear permission to clone.
Generate a representative test
Do not test only a flattering sentence. Include names, numbers, abbreviations, pauses, emotion, and the kinds of phrases your actual project uses. Listen for pronunciation, cadence, artifacts, and whether the clone stays consistent across longer passages.
Choose where the clone belongs in your workflow
A cloned voice can feed narration, long-form Studio projects, voice changing, or other creative work. For realtime or business applications, also evaluate latency, privacy, retention, and operational controls.
Consent is not optional
A voice is identity-bearing data. Platform permissions and local law can differ by use case and jurisdiction. Use your own voice or documented permission, and obtain legal advice for high-risk commercial, public-figure, employment, or regulated uses.
